Assist with technical repairs and inspections, and honing troubleshooting skills in line with the Ontario Fire Code.
Key Responsibilities
Report directly to Fire Alarm General Manager
Assist Fire Alarm Technicians with repairs and alterations of fire alarm field devices, panels, and components
Assist Fire Alarm Technicians in component replacements of devices (e.g. manual pull stations, smoke and heat detectors and alarms, fire extinguishers, fire hoses, gauges on fire protection sprinkler and standpipe systems, emergency lighting units, exit signs, and other fire/life safety devices, etc.)
Assist Fire Alarm Technicians with monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual inspections and tests on fire alarm systems and components in accordance with the Ontario Fire Code and CAN/ULC standards
Complete and submit work orders and other administrative documents to office staff
Utilize company templates to complete applicable test reports
Complete service acknowledgements through phone and laptop programs / software
Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals
Notify building staff, local fire department, and monitoring stations of shutdown to fire alarm system when shutdown of fire systems is required to perform maintenance, repairs, and/or replacement
Operate professionally and safely on ladders, lifts, platforms, in confined spaces
Record tests/inspections in respective building fire log books
Provides solutions-based recommendations, and objective oriented feedback
Develop knowledge and skills through continuous development training and education
Complete required education and training material(s) as required
Attend all internal and external meetings as required
Travel to properties and attend on-site visits as required
Maintain proper handling and care of tools, equipment, and materials
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge, & Skills
Pending registration with the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA)
Experience with fire alarm systems (all brands), emergency lighting systems and extinguishers
Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage
Experienced in conventional and addressable fire alarm systems, and key valves / switches on fire protection systems
Experienced in high-rise and low-rise residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
Experience with basic power tools
Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary repairs
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Capable of performing physical labor (e.g. carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 40 lbs.)
Able to work in unusual and difficult positions (e.g. climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, hydro vaults, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.)
Ability to work flexible hours including evening/weekends to meet customer requirements
Demonstrate a high level of customer service
Self-starter that can work with little to no supervision
Must have excellent work ethic with strong dependability
Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times
Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly
Proficient in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
Excellent communication; to customers, coworkers, and non-technical staff
Proficiency in English is required
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle for work is an asset
